Web pages & How to use this site

The use of Web pages and the use of Internet Browsers in the presentation of technical information enables a whole range of special features to be used which help the user to obtain the most out of the subject.

This site has built on the principle of using hypertext to enable both jumps between pages and to other internet sites.

If you come across text which is in blue has a spinning icon next to it or is in some other way highlighted (depending upon which browser you use), if you click on the text with your mouse or pointing device you browser should automatically jump to that location.

If at any time you get lost, press the  button  at the bottom of the page to return to the entrance screen.

The button will take you to the top the the screen.

The button will take you to the E-mail page - we welcome your comments !

The button will bring you back here.

The structure of the site is shown below. A full sized CAD based schematic is available for download in ACAD Release 12 format

There are three main layers of information.

  1. Area Locator - using the clickable image a room or area can be selected for further investigation.
  2. Room Data - A listing of all the services that are commonly installed in the area along with information about common requirements for each service.
  3. Systems Listings- Data about each type of system that is commonly installed within a typical modern building.
  4. Manufacturers Links - links to manufacturers sites
  5. Related links - miscellaneous links to other university sites, institute sites, museums etc. as well as other South Bank University projects.
  6. SBU Projects - Ongoing web based projects that are available for browsing.
  7. Glossary - What does that techie term mean ?
  8. Help - Short guide tio the site.

In addition to the above, numerous other links and associated reference pages are present to provide further information where possible.
Images or diagrams that appear on the screen can be saved to disk using the appropriate command (again depending upon which browser you use)

Unless you know precisely what information you need, it is best to browse systematically using the main index page as a starting point. Your browser will have a "Back" button to help you go back a page if you make a wrong jump.

The pages on this site have been designed to use 256 colours on a PC monitor having a screen resolution of 800x640 pixels. Also, the site uses frames. This enables flexibility of the display.

The site has been tested using Netscape Navigator Version 3 and Internet Explorer Version 3 & 4. Sorry, but due to the image based content, support is not provided for Lynx or text based browsers.

For further help consult the documentation that came with your browser or the Help function on your browser software.
